Some days in Old Siam

From our time in Bangkok

Traffic in Bangkok is mostly just an awful situation. But then you see something like this.

Rajdamnoen Muay Thai Stadium

Muay Thai boxing - these guys are intense.

Before the fight, the athletes engage in a ceremony that is partly traditional ritual, partly an opportunity for the bookies to size up the boxers and set the odds.

Fusion cuisine
The gardens at Jim Thompson's house. Thompson was an American OSS/CIA operative turned Thai silk importer and is the most famous foreigner in Bangkok.

The guardians at the Grand Palace. I thought about messing with them for approximately zero seconds.

Jim Thompson's house, assembled from six traditional Thai teak homes from around the country.

A Chinese style "Happy Buddha"

These stone guardians were displeased with the design of the former archway.

JJ relaxing at Wat Pho, home to the world's largest reclining Buddha.

World's largest reclining Buddha, you ask? Here it is - the head is 60 feet tall.

The bling on Buddha's huge feet.

Long ears mean long life, we are told. Victor: "Awesome."

Wat Phra Kaew - this serpent creature protected the Buddha from a monsoon as he meditated.

So much pretty.

So much scary.

So Vic, perhaps you were Buddha in a previous life, if elongated ears mean anything!
